  1. So I actually have a date….

… a Sunday morning coffee date, but it still counts!

I’m always at the same coffee shop every Sunday morning, watching a drama, writing to a friend in NYC and enjoying some peace and quiet. There are some other regulars, but I’m quite the earlybird so the one I see the most is a lady teaching English to a Japanese man. Last Sunday one of her new students showed up for a lesson but she was late so I said he could sit with me. I’m learning a bit of Japanese (because Korean by itself isn’t taxing enough) and I actually like helping people with English conversation. So we chatted for a bit and he said I was cute and he liked me and wanted my number.

This is boldness I’ve not experienced before so i kinda went red and wondered what I’d done right this morning (or ever) to get such attention. Anyway, the teacher showed up and cut our little budding ‘romance’ short and he said he’d call - something I took with a  pinch of wasabi and soy ‘cos in my universe it doesn’t happen. That he said he’d lost his phone too was not really very confidence inspiring, but oddly I seem to have grown a thick skin in the 7 year desert that’s been my dating life and just decided that it didn’t matter if he did call or not. I felt good for a good long while off of the compliments so decided I would e-mail him Friday to wish him a good weekend and that he can join me for coffee if he was free Sunday.

I got a text back a few hours later saying he would be there at 10am.

I pretty pleased about that, but a little wary too. I know Korean men quite well - most of my guy friends are Korean, a mix of Brit born and Seoul-ites and I get how they are and their manners. Japanese men - I have no idea about. Its going to be interesting that’s for sure!
